The Managing Director of Ibom Power Company Limited and Special Assistant (SA) to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Power, Engr. Meyen Etukudo has said about 1500megawatts (mw) will soon be added to the State’s current power generation capacity.
The MD spoke at the 25th monthly power sector stakeholders meeting hosted by Ibom power company in Uyo where he attributed his statement to the significant power projects currently on-going in the state.
“There is a proposed 132kV double circuit transmission line being constructed from Ikot Abasi – Ekparakwa – Ikot Ekpene – Uyo. When this 132kV line is completed and linked with the existing 132kV transmission line from Uyo – Eket – Ekim – Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom will be completely ringed on 132kV” he said.
Speaking on power distribution which is perceived to be the weakest link, Engr. Etukudo said there is a tripartite partnership between Ibom Power Company Limited, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) and Akwa Ibom State Government to optimize the distribution network in the state through the implementation of a “Power For All” initiative.
He said the “Power For All” Project is to be implemented through the metering of residents in Akwa Ibom State which will result in increased revenue collections and higher energy revenues. Governor Udom Emmanuel has constituted a committee consisting of Akwa Ibom State Government, Ibom Power and PHEDC representatives to implement the power for all project.
