The Managing Director of Ibom Power Company Limited and Special Assistant on Power to Governor Udom Emmanuel, Engr. Meyen Etukudo has said work is currently on fast-track to compete and commission the 132/33kV transmission substation at Ekim in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area (LGA) of Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking while receiving delivery of a 1 x 60MVA transformer for the project, Engr. Etukudo said upon completion, the substation will supply steady and quality power supply to five LGAs in Akwa Ibom State which includes Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin, Onna, Eastern Obolo and Orukanam LGAs.
He spoke further that the substation which will also provide steady and quality power supply to Jubilee Syringe factory, King Flour Mills, Coconut Refinery, Metering Solutions Manufacturing Services and Akwa Ibom State University axis is a partnership between Akwa Ibom State Government and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
“With the arrival of this 1 x 60MVA transformer and level of work going on right now at the site, we are working to complete and commission the Ekim project very soon according to the directive of the Governor”.
Industry reports states that a 1 x 60MVA has the capacity to evacuate about 48megawatts of electricity which is only about 42% of the 112mw being produced daily by unit 3 of Ibom power plant. The power demand in each of the five LGAs is estimated at 6mw maximum for a cumulative demand of 30mw.
