The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has lost one of its 60MVA power transformers at Afaha Ube, Uyo to a fire incident that occurred during installation of the transformer, Leadership Newspaper reports.
In a statement, TCN said that the burnt transformer is part of the 16 number 60MVA power transformers it procured in 2011.
Although the fire was said to have been eventually put out by the TCN engineers in conjunction with the Julius Berger and Akwa Ibom fire services, vital parts of the new 60MVA power transformer were destroyed leading to the substation being shut down temporarily.
TCN said in its statement that steps have been taken to avoid a re-occurrence of similar incidents.
